Glen Campbell (member, San Diego Symphony)

From past Festival participants:
  • Glen was awesome! He was very helpful and encouraging.
  • Glen was very fun and lots of help with difficult parts.
  • I love how he talked about the natural body movements and the natural way of playing instruments. His interpretation of our pieces are good, too.
Glenn started playing the cello when he was 13. He graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana with a degree in music education. He completed a Masters degree at Hartt College of Music in Hartford, Connecticut where he studied with Bernard Greenhouse and was a member of the Hartford Symphony. With his wife, violist Rebekah Campbell, they came to San Diego in 1969 to play in the San Diego Symphony and to be members of the Feld String Quartet which was in residence at the United States International University. Glen is also a member of the San Diego Opera Orchestra and has played in other area chamber orchestras. He began teaching the Suzuki cello method in the early 70?s after studying with Yvonne Tait. He has taught in the Suzuki program at San Diego State University and was the director of the program until it's close in 2006. Glen has served on the local and state Suzuki boards. He and his San Diego Symphony colleague, Karla Holland-Moritz, are founders and co-directors of Strings by the Sea Music camp at Point Loma Nazarene University, which just completed its eleventh year.
